How to Romanticize Your Life

This concept is unmeasurably important to me. It is what I credit a large deal of my happiness to.

what does it mean to romanticize your life

romanticize: to deal with or describe in an idealized or unrealistic fashion; make (something) seem better or more appealing than it really is.

So, how do you romanticize your life? I suppose romanticizing your life can consist of different things for different people, but for me, I think it means appreciating the small things. To find joy in the everyday. Start living in each moment instead of looking ahead. To be more intentional.

your environment

I think one of the most important factors that play into “romanticizing” your life is your environment. It is easy to miss how important our environment is to our overall happiness, productivity, and life. I LOVE my room. Aesthetics are a BIG part of my life. If something is aesthetically pleasing to me, I am 1000% more likely to do it. For example, my desk set up where I do my work is very aesthetically pleasing to me. This encourages me to actually want to do my work. Not only does the aesthetic of my room bring me so much joy, but the habits I was able to build in this environment make me happier and more productive. Be intentional with your space.

intentionality

Honestly, the number one thing I consider when it comes to “romanticizing” your life is intentionality. Instead of merely going through the motions of life, take a moment to be intentional even in the everyday, mundane, and small moments. It is all about finding joy in the little things.

15 ways to romanticize your life

  1. Intentional Morning Routine: for me, this consists of waking up EARLY, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I am most productive in the morning so I like to get a lot done. I think the most important part of this is waking up early enough to have a slow morning. Whatever it is that you like to get done in the morning, make sure you have enough time to do so and some. There’s nothing I love more than a slow morning. It allows me to enjoy the peace of the mornings.
  2. Take Time to Make Yourself a Good Meal: I know for me food is so much more rewarding when I make it myself. I love to make a good, balanced meal, that is aesthetically pleasing. I love to sit down at my kitchen island put something good on the TV and eat a nice home-cooked meal. It can be breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
  3. Take Yourself on a Date: It doesn’t have to be anything crazy. Just think of a simple date idea you would want to go on, and then go alone. Whether it’s a walk in a park or stopping into your favorite pizza place.
  4. Get Outside: I don’t have enough good things to say about how spending time in nature boosts my mood, and brings me joy. Make sure you’re getting your Vitamin D in daily 😉
  5. Get Ready: Get ready for the day even if you don’t have to.
  6. Channel Your Inner Child: Let yourself be silly. Play mermaids at the beach, skip instead of walk, and dance in the rain.
  7. Learn Something New: I get bored of EVERYTHING. So I think it’s super fun to try new things, whether it’s a new hobby or a new language, etc. You don’t even have to stick with it but it’s just fun to switch it up.
  8. Be Creative: I love taking a break to color, or paint a picture, it’s definitely a good stress reliever.
  9. Journal: I think this really helps me stay present. Whether I am noting how I am feeling or recounting the events of my day.
  10. Add Fruit to Your Water: This is random but I LOVE adding cucumbers, strawberries, or lemon to my water. It’s so fun.
  11. Go to a Cute Coffee Shop To Do Work: Coffee shops bring me so much joy. I love switching up my environment and getting things done.
  12. Buy Yourself Flowers: I love everything about flowers. I love picking them out, I love arranging them, and I love seeing them in my room.

At the end of the day, while these are all fun ideas, no one thing is going to make your life “good”. The idea of romanticizing your life is about finding joy in EVERYTHING. Romanticize waking up early, romanticize sleeping in, and taking care of yourself. Romanticize a healthy meal, romanticize a “cheat meal”. Whatever it is you choose to do make it “fun”. When everything in life is “fun” life feels more worth living. I always say that I am “passionate about life”, I believe this is because I romanticize everything. You can even romanticize a break-up, eat your gallon of ice cream, scream that sad music, and cry your eyes out, that is still beautiful. Life is beautiful. Each and every part of it. Romanticize it all.

For example, this is how I try to romanticize my life on the daily:

Waking Up– I wake up early enough to go to the gym, read my bible, make a good breakfast, shower, and get ready before I need to be wherever I need to be that day. I also wake up early enough to relax IN BED before getting up. (I usually read my bible during this time).

Working Out– I try to put on a cute workout set that makes me feel confident. I listen to my favorite music at the gym to keep me motivated, and I intentionally walk outside to get to the gym in my apartment even though it isn’t necessary. I look forward to the brief moment of fresh air.

Breakfast– I like to make my breakfast aesthetically pleasing because that makes it more fun for me. I also like to set myself up with a good youtube video or show while I am eating my breakfast.

Getting Ready– I like to wear cute&comfy outfits when I can, outfits that I can be comfortable in but also feel good!

Walk to Class→ I intentionally walk to class, rather than take the bus. I enjoy getting the fresh air. On these walks, I usually call my Grandma or listen to my favorite playlist or podcast. It is a long walk and it does take longer but it is worth it.

Driving– I don’t normally drive while I’m at school. But if I do I like to roll the windows down and blast my “head out the window” playlist which is full of good vibes.

Class– Using pretty colors and highlighters makes taking notes more fun for me.

Cleaning– I like to play specifically Billy Joel and Frank Sinatra when I clean. There’s just nothing like it. It makes cleaning more enjoyable for me.

Homework– I like to set up my desk space with my salt lamp, sunset lamp, and fairy lights. I also like to put citrus essential oils in my diffuser (supposedly that helps with focus). I play meditation music, and wear my blue light glasses to help me “get in the zone”.

Bedtime-I keep my sunset lamp and fairy lights on while I wind down in bed, I spray my lavender sleep mist and sometimes use lavender essential oils. I listen to my “bedtime” playlist which concludes of my favorite wind-down slow songs. Sometimes I like to light a candle as well.
